- Over 11,000 employees worldwide voted to select Last Mile Health, Seed Global Health, and UNICEF with an aim to train 8,000 community health workers worldwide, train 5,000 health professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa, and strengthen health systems in Angola, Guinea, and Togo.
- With the addition of three programs, Takeda's contribution through its unique Global CSR Program totals 5.9 billion yen for a total of 9 programs since its launch in 2016.
- Takeda's CSR activities, including the Global CSR Program, contribute to the lasting health of patients worldwide through mid and long-term commitments in disease prevention, capacity building, and access to healthcare.

Osaka, Japan, 9 July, 2018 --- Takeda Pharmaceutical Company Limited [TSE: 4502] (“Takeda”) today announced the addition of three partners to its Global CSR Program for 2018 that contribute to the long-term health of people through disease prevention in developing and emerging countries. Employees cast their votes worldwide, and selected three programs run by organizations with proven track records: Last Mile Health, Seed Global Health, and UNICEF. All three of these programs are large-scale programs that are being launched by the aforementioned organizations in partnership with Takeda. 

Takeda's Global CSR Program, its flagship CSR activity, is a multi-year commitment in partnership with key global stakeholders and rooted in its patient-centricity and dedication to disease prevention and the improvement of access to healthcare that transform people's lives in developing and emerging countries.

Partner Organizations and Program Outlines
1. Last Mile Health: A health worker for everyone, everywhere

■ Outline: This program aims to train 8,000 community health workers through the Community Health Academy across the world in 30 evidence-based, lifesaving practices and expand their reach to millions of rural children and families in the highest burden countries. Last Mile Health will build upon progress to date in bringing Liberia’s groundbreaking National Community Health Assistant Program to scale, taking lessons learned to influence global discourse surrounding community health workforce programming as a means of delivering primary healthcare services to highly vulnerable and underserved populations.

■  Period: 3 years
■  Budget: 400 million yen

2. Seed Global Health: Training 5,000 Health Professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa

■ Outline: This program aims to help remedy the shortage of skilled health care professionals in Sub-Saharan Africa, helping to build sustainable health systems where there is a critical need. Seed Global Health works with partner institutions and governments in this geographic area to support the education, training, and mentorship of 5,000 health professionals, including doctors, nurses, and midwives.

■  Budget: 500 million yen

3. UNICEF: Health Systems Strengthening in Sub-Saharan Africa Towards Universal Health Coverage

■  Outline: This program aims to help protect the lives of an estimated 8.5 million people including 1.6 million children under five and 424,000 pregnant women by sustainably strengthening health systems in the three areas: improving health data and information systems, strengthening procurement and supply chain management, and strengthening the human resources in health system governance.

■  Areas: Angola, Guinea, and Togo
■  Period: 5 years
■  Budget: 500 million yen

Last Mile Health’s mission is to save lives in the world’s most remote communities. The organization has worked for more than a decade to support governments to build national community health systems. Currently, Last Mile Health, in partnership with the Government of Liberia, supports over 3,000 community health workers as part of a national program that will serve 1.2 million Liberians by 2021.
